about
Sonja Sleator releases her new single Runaway on June 20th 2019. Runaway is the first new music from the Belfast-based artist since the release of her third EP, Violent Strawberry, in April this year.
On Runaway Sleator says, “This song is a bit different from the Violent Strawberry material. It’s a bit more upbeat, more optimistic. To me it feels like a great summer song. It makes me think of escaping, getting away from pressure and expectation. Running away.”
Runaway is accompanied by a video produced by Sleator.
“With the video I just wanted something simple but effective. It was more of an experiment than anything else, to see if I could do it and how well it might turn out. Like the video for my last single, Goodbye, it’s a single continuous shot which we’ve had some fun with in the edits. My music can be quite serious sometimes, so I like to be a little less serious with my videos and artwork when I can. Runaway has given me the opportunity to do that.”
Sonja Sleator topped off 2018 with an appearance at Dublin’s Hard Working Class Heroes festival, where her performance was positively reviewed by Hotpress. Her third EP, Violent Strawberry, released in April 2019 received high praise from outlets including Rocking Magpie, Chordblossom and XS Noize. Two singles off the EP, Ghost and Goodbye were picked up for radio play across Ireland from BBC Radio Ulster, KCLR FM, 8Radio, Near FM, Limerick’s Live95FM, and featured by XS Noize and Hotpress as its Track of the Day.
